Small plate composed of camel bone, Sidamo – Ethiopia

Small plate composed of a camel bone, sharpened, polished and carved.

They can be found in numerous East -African ethnic groups. They may be of different sizes, and decorate the necks of young girls and young women.

Other similar plates can also be found in Southern Africa, but have a different purpose: they are used as oracles for divination.

Some of them were made of ivory.
