Description
Serge Chermayeff, born Russian, designer, architect of the De La Warr Pavilion, partner of Eric Mendelsohn, became involved with Paul Follot in a new design department at Waring and Gillow in 1929. He was commissioned by the BBC for the London broadcasting house in 1931 to design tubular furniture produced by PEL (Practical Equipment Ltd). Similar armchairs are documented in the BBC’s broadcasting studios. (bibliography: PEL and tubular steel furniture of the thirties, The Architectural Association London 1977, page 22)
